Happy Christmas! This has been a busy BIG Year…

The ‘BIG Initiative’ has been trundling along for a few years now – but this year has seen a HUGE amount of progress.

Put simply, our achievement is: There is no reason to suffer with ineffective strategy delivery any longer.

• Ineffective strategy delivery does not have to be the elephant in the room
• We can spot the signs – protagonists can use our examples in their situations
• There are concepts and principles with which to engage people – the language exists
• We know what to build and operate to do it better – we have the components and lifecycle
• We do not have to suggest completely new practice – all the knowledge exists – we just need to combine it
• Technology solutions are available – we just need to apply them
• Furthermore – there are BIG Sponsor organisations who can assist professionally if there is not enough volunteer time to go around.

We now have a base of 1000 CIC members, LinkedIn Group members and BIG friends.

How have we got here?

At the start of the year, we spent a lot of time promoting the release of the BIG Body of Knowledge, and with the support of some partners, we developed and ran a “Core BIG Presentation” webinar. The event report and recording is accessible here. We recorded a follow on discussion of strategy delivery and further blogs on governance and vision..

In the Spring, we collaborated with the Good Governance Academy and Dr Victoria Hurth to highlight the relationship between integrated governance and the “Purpose Driven Organisation” – where we introduced PAS 808 – Purpose Driven Organisations and identified the challenges of integrating social and environmental responsibility into our strategy delivery – rather than just adding it onto things we might do..

We collaborated with the people at:

• Transparent Choice – focusing again on the need for prioritisation – and emphasizing support (xMO) is needed to take the journey – which is more than just projects.
• CPS – to illustrate that with an OKR platform – we can have the backbone for strategy delivery
• More solution providers see the BIG Framework as a capability to surround their solutions.

Since July, we have supported the APM (PMO and Governance groups), PMI (PM4THEWORLD Conference) and the House of PMO to help the portfolio, programme and project management community to appreciate the difference between Change Portfolio Management and Strategy Delivery.

In Summary, we’ve:

1. shown that in many organisations – there is a gap in support for strategy delivery
2. demonstrated that to truly operate as a purpose driven organisation – taking environment and social responsibility seriously – we need to build a pathway to a resilient world.
3. evidenced the gap between strategy and delivery in many dimensions
4. challenged the PMO community to step up and take the lead to close the gap between strategy and delivery
5. clearly positioned Business Integrated Governance as a framework to connect strategy and delivery
6. presented the BIG CIC approach to engaging stakeholders on the BIG Journey and walked a workshop full of people through it
