BIG Professional Exams
September 9, 2025Are you ready for strategy delivery?
(There is the odd question which puts your head well above the parapet…)
Despite the importance of strategy execution, the success rates are low
- 60–70% of strategies fail during execution (McKinsey & Company).
- A 2016 PMI report found that only 60% of strategic initiatives meet their goals. Nearly 1 in 10 organisations report a high level of success with strategic implementation.
- The Brightline Initiative reported that $1 million is wasted every 20 seconds globally due to poor strategy delivery — equating to $2 trillion a year.
These numbers highlight a widespread execution gap — organisations often have good strategies on paper but fail to translate them into effective action.

So why do so many of us squirm at the thought of suggesting our organisation could do better?
Raising the perception of a need to improve strategy delivery is difficult because it challenges deep-rooted organizational behaviours, beliefs, and power structures. Even when the data clearly shows poor performance, many organisations fail to acknowledge or act on it.
Many perceive even probing an organisation’s capability for strategy delivery can in fact be a form of Career Hara-kiri.
The BIG CIC has created a free readiness assessment to help protagonists raise perception of need with fellow and senior colleagues. It can distances you from accusations of political point scoring or attempts to climb the greasy pole.
Why not check out the outline Excel version of this model? (There is a recording which explains it.)
