We rank, sequence, and deliver until capacity runs out. But most of the work that truly matters cuts across domains. And that\u2019s where things break down.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Different leaders prioritise different things. Alignment becomes fragile. And prioritisation turns into negotiation rather than decision-making.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Some organisations try to fix this:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>We build scoring models.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>We weight \u201cstrategic\u201d initiatives more heavily.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>But often, those weightings are <strong>pseudo-strategy<\/strong>:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>No one truly owns them<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Their link to business purpose is unclear<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>And when challenged, we discover there is no real cascade of objectives<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Without clear objectives, we also struggle to measure value:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>We track activity and milestones<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>But benefits? Outcomes? Real impact?<br>They\u2019re harder\u2014and often avoided<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>So what can we do?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>The Proposition<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Start with a scoring system<\/strong><br>Not because it\u2019s perfect\u2014but because it creates a practical starting point for better conversations<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Use it to expose the strategy<\/strong><br>Challenge and refine \u201cstrategic weightings\u201d to uncover what actually matters<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Introduce OKRs and benefits thinking<\/strong><br>Move beyond milestones to outcomes and value<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Extend prioritisation beyond projects<\/strong><br>Apply it to all work\u2014not just formal initiatives<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>What might happen?<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Better alignment to strategic objectives<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>More effective use of capacity<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Greater organisational agility<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>All triggered by improving how we prioritise.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>We brought people together to explore this further.<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>What is our viewpoint of the Propositrion?
