Many organisations say they want data-driven decision making<\/strong>. But look closely at how governance actually works:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Different teams bring their own numbers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Boards review slide packs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Managers compile reports manually.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n

By the time decisions are made, the information is often fragmented or already out of date. And where has it come from?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The result is familiar: decisions shaped as much by narrative and persuasion as by evidence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In Business Integrated Governance (BIG)<\/strong> we start from a different premise.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Information needed for governance, accountability and assurance should not be assembled ad hoc, meeting by meeting. Otherwise – we end up making decisions about our most important matters based on far from reliable content. Data based decision making is a pipe dream. It should be systematically sourced, traceable, and connected to the objectives and responsibilities that governance bodies oversee<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This idea has been part of BIG for some time. The original thinking focused on building integrated information and management insight across governance, management and delivery.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What is changing now is the technology landscape<\/strong> – and some of us in the BIG CIC are working on creating a demand for operation like information<\/strong> for governance and accountability. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
